About me

Why I blog:

Growing up a scrawny little girl I was used to eating whatever I wanted and however much I wanted. My grandma swore it would catch up to me someday but I never believed her. That day finally came after my first year of college when I realized I had gained about 20 pounds. From then on I have struggled to maintain my weight and now understand the importance of healthy living. Many girls have gone (and will go) through this so I decided to start this blog to document my trials and tribulations of staying fit and healthy from college and beyond in hopes that I can give someone some good advice along the way.

A little background:

I was born and raised in Minnesota, the land of pond hockey. I played hockey for many years and still strap on the skates every once in a while….that’s me in the left corner :)

I am very close with my family, my parents are my best friends.

Me and mama

My dad with their two pugs Frank and Beans (Skeeter the Shitzu is no longer with us :( )

I have one sibling, my sister Erica. She was born blind and autistic and I owe so much of who I am today because I had the privilege of growing up with her.

Me and my sissy

After I graduated from Indiana University I decided to move to Chicago to begin my career in PR. I live right downtown (just outside of the loop) with my two dogs and my boyfriend, Corey.

My baby boy Mr. Big (He is some sort of Pomeranian mix...)

My baby girl Lola (Westie) - we watch what she wants to watch....

  1. Hi there Jessica!

My name is Steve Walters and I recently started blogging at http://www.eatingbangkok.com, which is currently being updated with recipes, but in the next few months will be my vehicle for covering the food and restaurant scene in Bangkok Thailand.

I am now in the process of meeting as many food bloggers as I can and I found your site http://dishinaboutnutrition.wordpress.com recently and was pretty impressed. I’ve added your site to my Foodie Blogs list here: http://www.eatingbangkok.com/foodie-blogs/ and would also like to add you to my blogroll.

If you could add my site to your blogroll and write back to let me know it has been added I will add you to mine as well and the exchange would be greatly appreciated!

As you might imagine I am very excited to get moved to Bangkok and get started on covering the food scene there as I feel it is an area that isn’t well covered by English speaking bloggers. I plan on adding loads of great reviews, pictures and even video and will be holding contests as well. It should be fun, entertaining and informative for everyone that visits.

Thank you so much in advance for adding me to your blogroll and I look forward to reading your posts (I’ve subscribed!) and maybe even featuring some of your own posts as I do plan on a weekly roundup of Thai themed recipes and posts from other food bloggers.

    Warm regards,
    Steve

P.S. If you are on Twitter I would love to have you as a follower and I follow back:

  2. Great to hear you like my blog! I will definitely check yours out and best of luck to you with yours! I do not have a blogroll on my blog as of now but I will definitely add you to my food blog networking sites and pass your link along.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Jessica

  3. Thanks for following me on Twitter! I noticed the IU sweatpants in the last post you did. So did you two go to IU? That is where I am from and don’t live far from there now. Nice to “meet” you :)

  4. Hey there! I found your blog through Carrie’s Moves n Munchies where you did a guest post. I’m subscribing to your blog right after I finish this comment because I am a college student that gained weight througout high school and into college and am now struggling to live healthier and lose all that weight. Just from reading your guest post I was feeling motivated and like this girl (you) really knew what I would be going through and would have great advice. So thanks for sharing your story through your blog!

  5. Thank you so much for stopping by! It’s people like you that give me a reason to keep blogging. Feel free to go through some of my earlier posts (they were more geared towards the college living experience since I was living it back then) so you might find those more helpful. Let me know too if you have any questions, I love getting feedback from my followers on things they want to know more about :)

  12. Hi, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get a lot of spam comments? If so how do you stop it, any plugin or anything you can recommend? I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any assistance is very much appreciated.

  13. I used to get some here and there, the more I flagged them as spam the less I saw however, since moving to a self-hosted platform, it has gotten so much worse. I am working out the kinks right now but so far I haven’t found a solution. I will keep you posted if and when I fix it!
Don’t let it stop you from blogging though, it’s just a hiccup :)
